 What is a Mason?

“I think my grandfather was one, but I’m not sure what it means.”

“Yeah, my dad and uncle both used to go to Masonic meetings.  I remember Uncle Fred coming by to pick him up, but I don’t know where they went or what they did.”

“I think they wear those funny hats.”

That’s not a surprising question. Even though Masons (Freemasons) are members of the largest and oldest fraternity in the world, and even though almost everyone has a father or grandfather or uncle who was a Mason, many people aren’t quite certain just who Masons are.
The answer is simple;

A Mason (or Freemason) is a member of a fraternity known as Masonry (or Freemasonry). A fraternity is a group of men (just as a sorority is a group of women) who join together because:

--There are things they want to do in the world.

--There are things they want to do “inside their own minds.”

--They enjoy being together with men they like and respect.

 Welcome to Lake Placid Lodge, #834!

 About Our Lodge

The journey to begin Lake Placid Lodge, #834, located in Lake Placid, NY, began on September 12, 1899.  A meeting was convened with the intent of forming a lodge in Lake Placid.  It was decided that night to apply for a charter.

October 3, 1900, a special dispensation was granted by order of Grand Master C.W.Meade allowing us to meet for one year.

We received our charter from the Grand Lodge of New York on July 13, 1901, sponsored by Whiteface Mountain Lodge #789 of Saranac Lake, Tahawus Lodge #790 of Ausable Forks and Adirondack Lodge #602 of Elizabethtown.

On January 24, 1917 the Lodge moved from the room then in use to their new Lodge on Main Street. There they remained until the decision was made to sell that Lodge some 65 plus years later.  It was then that they moved to their current location where they remain today.

 Meetings are held the 2nd and fourth Wednesday of the month from September through May, except for the fourth Wednesday of November and December.

Dinner/Coffee is served at 6:30 pm with a tiled meeting at 7:30 pm.

Visitors from other lodges are cordially welcome.

Please bring a current dues card.
